Misinformation through WhatsApp forwards —videos and photos — spreads like wildfire. Here is our compilation of fake WhatsApp videos that went viral and the reality behind these distorted facts

What was shown: Images of an injured women were being circulated with the claim that she was beaten up during a search operation conducted by the Indian Army in the Shopian district of Kashmir. But the woman in the image is Neelam Gul, a Pashto actress and the images were taken from a video that emerged on social media in October, where she was seen asking for help against her abusive husband.

What was shown: A newspaper clip went viral that shows that BJP chief Amit Shah called the Baniya community ‘thieves’ and accused them of profiteering. But the clip was fake as such a statement was not reported by any other media agency.

What was shown: A viral post with a photo of Sachin Tendulkar in a saffron kurta claims that he has joined the BJP. But sources close to him have denied the claim.

What was shown: An image showing an Emirates-owned Boeing 777 aircraft completely studded with diamonds is being circulated, with many believing it to be true. But the aircraft is not diamond studded — the image was digitally created by digital artist Sara Shakeel.
