Misinformation through whatsapp forwards —videos and photos — spreads like wildfire. Here is our compilation of fake whatsapp videos that went viral and the reality behind these distorted facts

What was shown: A WhatsApp message claiming to announce the dates for the 2019 general elections is being circulated. The message starts with the phrase, ‘Election 2019 For All India’, and lists out Indian states and union territories along with dates next to it. But the message is a hoax as the dates have not yet been announced officially.

What was shown: A video is being circulated that shows two men dressed as Indian army soldiers shooting a selfie video, while in another frame, a soldier can be seen resting in a trench. The message shared with the video suggests that these are Indian army personnel. The footage went viral as that of an injured Indian army soldier but it is a video that was shot on the sets of a Punjabi movie.

What was shown: A video purportedly depicting the printing of Rs 50 and Rs 200 notes is currently viral on social media with the claim that fake Indian currency notes are being made in Pakistan. People have shared the clip with the caption – “small scale industry in Pakistan.” The video also went viral last year but the exact origin and the truth behind this video is not known.

What was shown: A Facebook user recently posted an image of an old man with yellow coloured bags attached to his body, claiming that he was a suicide bomber who was caught by the Indian Army. But the image has been circulated several times with different false narratives.
