Misinformation through whatsapp forwards —videos and photos — spreads like wildfire. Here is our compilation of fake whatsapp videos that went viral and the reality behind these distorted facts
What was shown: “Have you ever seen a Prime Minister, who himself calls the martyr’s wife and tries to console her like a father. This video will bring tears to your eyes,” reads the caption of a video, where a woman is supposedly speaking to Prime Minister Narendra Modi over a phone call. The video has gone viral on social media in the backdrop of the Pulwama terror attack. But it is an old video of a woman, whose husband had died in a serial blast in 2013.
What was shown: In the wake of the Pulwama terror attacks, videos were shared claiming that they are of the attack that took place. One such video was 10 years old and from an attack that took place in Iraq.
What was shown: A video was circulated that shows UP CM Yogi Adityanath sharing a laugh with Bihar Governor Lalji Tandon. It went viral with the caption, “Look at Yogi Adityanath crying buckets near the body of martyr,” relating it to the Pulwama terror attacks. But Adityanath was not paying homage to the Pulwama martyrs as claimed. The video was shot in October 2018 during the final rites of ND Tiwari.
What was shown: A CCTV footage of an elevator that shows a woman being beaten ruthlessly and robbed by an unidentified assailant, went viral with the claim that it happened in a Delhi Metro elevator. But the footage is of an elevator in Kuala Lumpur.
