Misinformation through Whatsapp forwards —videos and photos — spreads like wildfire. Here is our compilation of fake Whatsapp videos that went viral and the reality behind these distorted facts
What was shown: Several photos of Indian female fighter pilots were being shared on social media with the claim that they led the Indian Air Force (IAF) air strike at Balakot. A flurry of of photos of various Indian female fighter pilots were shared with the same claim. But such a claim has not yet been corroborated and these pilots in 2016, were part of the first batch of female fighter pilots to be inducted into the IAF.
What was shown: A two-year-old video of a group of men molesting a woman is being circulated on social media with a false claim that a Kashmiri woman was molested in broad daylight. But the incident had taken place in the Kashipur town of Uttarakhand.
What was shown: A video of a missile strike is going viral in India with the claim that it shows the Indian Air Force air strikes after the Pulwana attack. But it is an old clip of a modification made to a video game.
What was shown: Several gruesome photos of badly charred animals are doing the round on social media, claiming that they are from Karnataka’s Bandipur Tiger Reserve in Chamarajanagar district where a major fire had engulfed the forest. But officials said that no animals died in this fire, as sensing there was a fire, the animals moved to a different location.
