Misinformation through whatsapp forwards —videos and photos — spreads like wildfire. Here is our compilation of fake whatsapp videos that went viral and the reality behind these distorted facts
What was shown: A short video clip showing Priyanka Gandhi surrounded by children raising slogans, has been superimposed with text, which says, “What language is Congress teaching these kids? Dont ruin children in your hate for Modi.” But the video in question has been clipped. It ends right at the moment before Priyanka Gandhi stopped the children from raising the objectionable slogan. “Ye wala nai, ye wala accha nai lagta. Acche acche wale, theek hai (Not this one, this one is not good. Only good ones, okay?)”
What was shown: A video of a group of people who are attacking a bus, went viral with the claim, “This happened in france when police entered in one Muslim area. Open eyes all Indian now.” It is suggested that the scene depicts a Muslim mob attacking the police in France. But the video is related to a protest, which took place last month in Algeria.
What was shown: A video of a woman singing the Hanuman Chalisa is going viral on social media with a claim that the singer is Madonna. But the woman is Uma Devi from Kyiv, Ukraine.
What was shown: “What will Modi opine on this act of BJP MLA Anil Upadhyay,” reads a caption attached to a video where a group of people are seen thrashing an individual with sticks. But the video is of a man who was beaten by his in-laws in Gandhinagar because of a family dispute.
