What was shown: A video showing visuals of buildings reduced to rubble is being circulated on social media. “Mexico Eathquake 8.1 RichterScale just hours ago today,” reads the post of a Facebook user. Several people on the social media platform in the span of a few hours shared the video suggesting that Mexico was struck by an 8.1 magnitude earthquake. But this is an old video. Mexico was devastated by an 8.1 magnitude earthquake on September 7, 2017. This is a two-year-old incident which was known as the strongest quake to hit the country in the last 100 years.
What was shown: An edited version of a video of Congress leader Naseem Khan from Mumbai referring to Sri Sri Ravishankar’s statement on India-Pakistan unity is viral on social media. In the edited clip one can hear Khan, an MLA from Chandivali say, “‘Pakistan Zindabad, If Modiji has courage, if Rajnath drank his mother’s milk, then file a sedition case”. But the video has been edited to falsely claim that Khan shouted ‘Pakistan Zindabad’. In the original clip dated June 20, 2016, one can hear Khan narrate a few lines questioning Prime Minister Narendra Modi about spiritual guru Ravishankar’s statement, ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ should go hand in hand with ‘Jai Hind’ in a bid to promote unity between the two countries.
What was shown: A photo showing Chinese President Xi Jinping, wearing a traditional Indian outfit, while meeting Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan, is being shared on social media. The fake image is being shared with a caption in Malyalam that roughly translates to ‘see the real Modi magic, here is the Chinese premier who went to Pakistan … In Indian dress.’ But the image is fake and was created as satire by @Atheist_Krishna a known Photoshop artist on Twitter. In the original photo Xi Jinping can be seen wearing a black suit with a white shirt and blue tie.
What was shown: A video showing several uniformed personnel who seem to have ‘captured’ terrorists in an operation is being shared on social media with the message, “Four terrorists entered collectorate building in Vidisha district of Madhya Pradesh, Vidisha police captured them alive and the operation was a success congratulations to such policemen”. But the video is of a mock drill that was conducted by Vidisha police at the collectorate premises in Vidisha district, MP on September 27.
