Patriot lists the players in different sports around the globe who have been diagnosed with Covid-19 so far

 The novel Coronavirus has now infected more than 6 lakh people worldwide, with more than 40,000 deaths. Like all other areas, sports too has been affected by it and a number of players have been diagnosed with Covid-19 all around the globe.

Football seems to have been the worst affected sport, with many players now on the sidelines because of this virus.

Juventus defender Danielle Rugani became the first footballer in Italy to be diagnosed with Coronavirus.

Since then, players from Sampdoria and Fiorentina have also been infected.

Fiorentina has confirmed that German Pezzella, Patrick Cutrone and Dusan Vlahovic have tested positive for Coronavirus.

AC Milan legend Paulo Maldi and his son Daniel Maldini have also tested positive for Coronavirus.

Sampdoria stars Manolo Gabbiadini, Omar Colley, Albin Ekdal, Antonio La Gumina, Morten Thorsby and Fabio Depaoli have also been affected by the outbreak.

Rugani’s team-mate Blaise Matuidi has also tested positive for Covid-19, with fellow Juve star Paulo Dybala the latest player to be diagnosed.

Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi, 19, became the first Premier League player to test positive for Coronavirus.

The Blues’ full squad has gone into self-isolation but the club says Hudson-Odi is “doing well”.

Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta also tested positive for Covid-19 and the club have closed their training facilities while players and staff who had close contact with Arteta self-isolate.

“This is really disappointing,” said the 37-year-old Spaniard. “I took the test after feeling poorly. I will be at work as soon as I’m allowed.”

Paderborn defender Luca Kilian became the first player in the Bundesliga to be diagnosed with Coronavirus.

Hannover’s Timo Hubers has also contracted the illness.

In Ligue 2 in France, Hyun-Jun Suk of Troyes has tested positive for Covid-19.

Valencia defender Ezequiel Garay became the first player in La Liga to contract the coronavirus, with team-mate Eliaquim Mangala also being infected.

Former Manchester United midfielder Marouane Fellaini, now with Chinese Super League club Shandong Luneng, has been diagnosed with Covid-19.

In the EFL, four Portsmouth players – James Bolton, Andy Cannon, Sean Raggett and Haji Mnoga – have tested positive for the virus.

The NBA is one of the worst-hit leagues in the world because of Coronavirus.

The most prominent name among the lot, Kevin Durant is one of four Brooklyn Nets players who have tested positive for Coronavirus. The three others werent named by the team. The Netslast game before the suspension of the NBA season was in Los Angeles when they beat the Lakers at Staples Center. Of the four players, the team said, one is exhibiting symptoms. All four were placed in isolation and under the care of team doctors.

Gobert was the first NBA player to test positive for Coronavirus. His positive test March 11 is what led the NBA to suspend its season. A few days before, he had made fun of the virus, touching every microphone at a press conference.

The Philadelphia 76ers announced that three members of the organisation have tested positive of the virus. In a statement, the team said NBA and medical experts recommended that players, coaches, and basketball operations support staff be tested for Coronavirus. The positive individuals are in self-isolation. The statement did not specify whether those with the virus are players.

On March 28, the New York Knicks announced that their team owner James Dolan had tested positive for Coronavirus. The Knicks said he was experiencing little to no symptoms, had been in self-isolation and was continuing to oversee business operations. He is the first owner in the NBA known to have tested positive for the virus.

Donovan Mitchell of the Utah Jazz was the second NBA player to test positive for the virus.

Victor Lange, a golfer of South Africa was diagnosed with Covid-19 upon returning home to Johannesburg on March 9 from playing a PGA Tour Latinoamerica event in Mazatlan, Mexico. He was tested as a precaution while going to a non-virus related doctors appointment with a friend. Lange received the diagnosis on March 17.

The Hungarian Olympic swimmer Boglarna Kapas, who won gold in the 200-meter butterfly at the 2019 world championships and bronze in the 800 freestyle at the 2016 Olympics, announced March 31 she has tested positive for Covid-19.

The 20-year-old Brazilian tennis player Thiago Seyboth Wild, who just won his first ATP title three weeks ago, posted a video on Twitter that he had contracted Coronavirus, and has been in self-isolation for the past week and following doctors orders.
