Pat Cummins’ generous act got the biggest round of applause from Twitterati in 2021, Patriot takes a look at the top tweets and hashtags that went viral this year

As the end of the year approached, Twitter India has put out some interesting data of what was trending in 2021. Their data analysts looked at the likes and retweets on the social media platform from 1 January to 15 November 2021, totting up the most liked tweets, the most retweeted tweets and top tweets in categories like business, sports and entertainment.

Most retweeted tweet

As the second wave of Covid-19 hit India, people across the globe came out in support. And so, Pat Cummins, the Australian cricketer (@patcummins30), donated towards the Covid relief fund and shared it on Twitter to encourage others to do the same. His tweets received applause from every corner of the country and people praised him for his generosity, which made it the most retweeted and top-quoted tweet of the year 2021 in India.

Cricketer Virat Kohli (@imVkohli) and his wife, actor Anushka Sharma were blessed with a girl child on 11 January this year. Virat Kohli broke the news on Twitter and in no time, fans ecstatically received the good news, showering blessings on the baby. Last year also, Kohli’s tweet announcing the pregnancy was the most liked tweet of 2020.

When the Tata Group retook Air India into its fold, after nearly 70 years of the airlines being state-owned, Ratan Tata (@RNTata2000), Chairman Emeritus of Tata Sons celebrated the news on Twitter and posted a heartfelt note, “Welcome Back, Air India” with a vintage picture of the early Air India panes. The tweet made waves on the platform and made it to the most retweeted tweet in India among the business category. This tweet was also the most liked tweet in business this year.

This was also the most liked tweet in sports in 2021.
