A big splash: South Delhi finds relief in swimming pools

South Delhi: As Delhi’s heatwave tightens its grip, thermometers rise and tempers fray. In South Delhi, however, families, students, and working professionals are turning to a simple, splashy solution: the neighbourhood pool. These are no longer just places to swim — they’ve become community lifelines, offering cool dips, early morning laps, and coaching sessions that build both skill and stamina.

This season, swimming pools across South Delhi are offering more than just relief from the sun. They are transforming into wellness spaces, fitness zones, and recreational hubs for all ages. From sleek sports complexes to accessible school campuses, here are six pools making a splash in 2025:

Pacific Sports Complex, Lajpat Nagar

A stone’s throw from Lady Shri Ram College, the Pacific Sports Complex houses one of South Delhi’s most impressive facilities — a 50-metre, eight-lane pool that’s sleek, spacious, and ideal for serious swimmers.

Yet it doesn’t exclude learners. In fact, Pacific is gaining attention this summer for its hybrid approach: Olympian infrastructure meets friendly coaching staff. Students, office-goers, and even senior citizens have found a rhythm in its structured classes and open swim sessions.

Khazan Singh Swimming Academy, Munirka

Named after Olympian Khazan Singh Tokas, this academy blends legacy with learning and enjoys a strong local following. Set in Munirka, it caters to all levels — from absolute beginners to competition hopefuls — and is known for its no-frills, clean, and well-supervised approach.

This year, coaching clinics for children and intensive summer batches are drawing in crowds. “It’s not just about beating the heat,” said a senior coach at the academy. “We want every swimmer here to build water confidence.”

DDA Sports Complex, Saket

For South Delhi residents seeking convenience without a hefty membership, the DDA complex in Saket offers an ideal middle ground. Its public-friendly pool, clean locker rooms, and per-session pricing attract casual swimmers and weekend visitors alike.

This summer, early evening swim slots are becoming increasingly popular — especially with young professionals seeking an escape from long workdays and persistent power cuts at home.

Sangam Vihar Sports Complex

Not every great pool needs sleek architecture. The DDA-run facility in Sangam Vihar keeps things simple: a clean pool, helpful staff, and affordable entry.

For neighbourhood families, it offers the perfect opportunity to cool off without splurging on club fees. “The lifeguards are friendly, the crowd is regular, and you don’t feel out of place,” said Reena Yadav, a local resident who swims here with her children. “It’s got a real sense of community.”

Siri Fort Sports Complex

Adjacent to the Siri Fort Auditorium, this DDA-run sports complex remains a gold standard for swimming in Delhi. Its Olympic-sized pool and disciplined time slots make it a favourite among competitive swimmers and morning fitness enthusiasts.

“Whether you’re training for a triathlon or just clocking laps before work, Siri Fort provides a reliable, professional experience,” said a coach stationed at the complex. Its proximity to jogging tracks and green spaces only adds to its appeal.

Delhi Public School, Vasant Kunj

Delhi Public School, Vasant Kunj, may be best known for its academic achievements, but its semi-Olympic swimming pool also draws in summer learners and local residents. Open to the public during designated hours, the pool offers a safe, structured environment for children to learn swimming under the guidance of certified instructors.

This year, short-term lessons and kid-friendly coaching camps have sparked growing interest. “Parents appreciate that their children can learn a life skill while having fun during the summer break,” said a DPS staff member.

As Delhi braces for more 45-degree days, these South Delhi pools offer more than just relief — they provide routine, movement, and a space to breathe. Whether you’re floating in calm or racing to the edge, there’s something quietly restorative about diving into a pool while the city sizzles.
