A 19-year-old woman was repeatedly stabbed in public by a man at the Kirbi Place bus stop in southwest Delhi, police said on Monday.
The accused, a 20-year-old man, later turned the knife on himself, sustaining injuries with the same weapon.
The incident was reported to the police around 9:30 PM on Sunday by a passerby.
“The woman suffered serious injuries to her neck and the left side of her abdomen. A knife was recovered from the scene. Both individuals were taken to hospital and are currently receiving treatment,” said a police officer.
Preliminary inquiries revealed that the attacker, identified as Amit, had been friends with the victim since last year. The two reportedly had a disagreement prior to the incident.
“A case has been registered under Section 109(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at Delhi Cantt Police Station. Investigations are ongoing,” the officer added.
