Delhi: On average, two cases of attempted murder were reported in the national capital every day during the first quarter of 2025, though police data shows a dip in such incidents compared to the same period last year.
Between January 1 and March 31 this year, Delhi Police registered 168 attempted murder cases — a notable decrease from 203 cases during the corresponding months in 2024. The decline marks an approximate 17.2 percent drop year-on-year.
However, when compared to 2023, which saw 158 such cases in the same time frame, the current figures reflect a 6.33 percent increase.
Senior police officials attribute the year-on-year reduction in 2025 to intensified policing efforts, better surveillance, and proactive strategies in vulnerable areas.
“Focused action against habitual offenders and quicker interventions in street-level crimes have significantly contributed to bringing down the numbers,” a senior officer said.

Authorities added that dedicated teams are working to curb violent crimes further, with enhanced coordination between local intelligence units and patrolling squads in high-risk zones.
The police also reported an overall decline in heinous crimes this year — including murders, robberies, and snatching — indicating a broader improvement in the city’s law and order situation.
