Customs officials have seized two gold chains weighing 332 grams and valued at around Rs 47.38 lakh from two passengers arriving from Sharjah at the Indira Gandhi International Airport Delhi, officials said on Friday.
The passengers were intercepted on October 26 at Terminal 3 after crossing the green channel, following spot profiling, an official statement said.
Although no incriminating item was found in their baggage, a strong beep during screening through a Door Frame Metal Detector (DFMD) prompted customs officials to conduct a personal search, it said.
The search led to the recovery of two gold chains of 999 purity, weighing 332 grams in total, concealed in the passengers’ undergarments. The chains had been wrapped in black tape and carbon paper, the statement said.
The seized gold, having an estimated market value of Rs 47.38 lakh, was confiscated under Section 110 of the Customs Act, 1962 at Delhi airport, it added.
