A CCTV footage, which has now gone viral, captured an armed robbery at gunpoint inside the busy Pragati Maidan tunnel. The incident involved four individuals on motorcycles intercepting a car and stealing around Rs 2 lakh from a delivery agent and his companion.

The Delhi Police has obtained the footage and revealed that it was recorded by one of the CCTV cameras installed in the 1.5-km tunnel, which connects New Delhi with Sarai Kale Khan and Noida.

The police are currently questioning the victims, their employer, and other employees to determine if the robbery was an inside job.

The 22-second video shows the four men trailing the cab on two motorcycles and stopping it inside the tunnel as other vehicles pass by.

Upon stopping, the two pillion riders dismounted their respective motorbikes. One quickly took the driver’s seat, while the other approached the rear of the car, both brandishing pistols. All four individuals were wearing helmets.

The footage then shows both car doors opening, and the person at the rear receiving a black handbag, presumably containing the stolen money. The two assailants swiftly returned to their waiting motorcycle and sped away with their accomplices.

According to the police, the hired car contained a delivery agent and his associate, and the bag held approximately Rs 1.5-2 lakh, intended for delivery in Gurugram.

“On Saturday, a complainant working as a delivery agent at Omiya Enterprises, Chandni Chowk, visited Tilak Marg Police Station and filed a written complaint stating that he and his associate were en route to Gurgaon to deliver a bag of cash,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (New Delhi) Pranav Tayal.

“They hired an Ola cab from Lal Qila, and while traveling on the Ring Road towards Gurgaon, when they entered the tunnel, four individuals on two motorcycles intercepted their cab and robbed them at gunpoint, stealing a bag containing Rs 1.5-2 lakh,” he added.

A case has been registered under sections 397 (robbery, or dacoity, with attempt to cause death or grievous hurt) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code. The police are making efforts to apprehend the culprits.
