A 26-year-old civil defence volunteer has been arrested for allegedly impersonating a Delhi Police constable and wearing a police uniform in northeast Delhi, officials said on Tuesday.
Shahrukh Khan, a resident of Ghaziabad district, was arrested on Sunday night, police said.
According to police, a patrolling team received a tip-off that a civil defence volunteer deployed at the SDM office in Nand Nagri was posing as a Delhi Police constable wearing a police uniform near Jawahar Nagar.
“The suspect was arrested following a raid. During questioning, the accused identified himself as constable Shahrukh Khan and claimed that he was posted at the Karawal Nagar police station,” a senior police officer said.
However, after verification, it was found that no one by that name was posted at the Karawal Nagar police station. A constable’s uniform was also recovered from Khan’s possession during the search, the officer said.

During interrogation, the accused admitted that he had been impersonating a Delhi Police constable.
Police have launched a probe to ascertain the motive behind the impersonation and whether he misused the uniform to gain unlawful benefits, the officer said.
