A 34-year-old man was killed in a hit-and-run incident in southwest Delhi, police said on Thursday. The driver of the speeding vehicle, identified as 55-year-old Rajesh Mehta, a resident of Paschim Vihar, has been arrested.
The incident occurred on 26 April, when police received a PCR call about an injured man lying on the Ring Road. He was rushed to the AIIMS Trauma Centre, where doctors declared him brought dead, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southwest) Surendra Choudhary.
The deceased was later identified as Mulu, a native of Madhya Pradesh, through an Aadhaar card recovered from the scene. His body was handed over to his family following a post-mortem examination.
“A case was registered at RK Puram police station and investigation was launched,” said DCP Choudhary. “However, there were no immediate leads due to the absence of CCTV coverage in the area and the high volume of traffic.”
A special team was constituted to crack the case. Investigators combed through footage from over 100 CCTV cameras across a 25-kilometre stretch from Dhaula Kuan to AIIMS and into West Delhi. During this extensive review, a white car with a dent on the driver’s side was spotted at multiple locations around the time of the incident.

The vehicle was eventually traced to Paschim Vihar. Local inquiries revealed it was registered in a woman’s name. Upon questioning, she informed police that her husband had been driving the car that day.
Mehta was called in for interrogation, during which he confessed to the crime. He admitted he had been driving at high speed towards Green Park via AIIMS when he struck the pedestrian. He panicked and fled the scene.
The car has since been seized, and Mehta remains in custody as further investigations continue.
