Delhi: A 36-year-old man was brutally killed in Delhi’s Dwarka area for allegedly harassing a young woman and her family with repeated marriage proposals, the police said. Four men have been arrested in connection with the murder.

The victim, Avnish Saxena, a resident of Nangli Vihar, was found dead on May 13 in a field near Dichaon-Bakkarwala Road in the Baba Haridass Nagar area. His motorcycle was discovered abandoned nearby.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Dwarka) Ankit Singh, a PCR call alerted police about an unidentified body and a motorcycle lying in the field. A crime and forensic team reached the spot, and Saxena’s identity was established through his vehicle registration.

Investigations revealed that Saxena had been persistently pursuing a girl for marriage, despite clear rejection from her and her family. His alleged harassment escalated to threats of public humiliation and even physical violence. The family eventually left Delhi and cut off communication, but Saxena continued his attempts to contact them.

Matters worsened when Saxena allegedly assaulted the girl’s brother. Disturbed by the incident, the brother confided in a neighbour, Devender Singh. The two, along with others, allegedly conspired to eliminate Saxena.

Police said that on May 14, one of the accused, 19-year-old Ishant Paswan, contacted Saxena and lured him to a secluded spot under the guise of collecting an outstanding sum of Rs 80,000 from a borrower.

Saxena, unaware of the trap, rode to the location on his motorcycle with Paswan as a pillion rider. On reaching the field, Devender Singh was already waiting. There, Paswan allegedly struck Saxena on the back of the head with a sharp weapon, and Singh joined in the attack. The two stabbed him repeatedly, resulting in his death, while two other accomplices kept watch.

The group fled the scene, abandoning both the body and the motorcycle.

Based on technical surveillance, field inquiries, and local intelligence, police arrested Paswan, Singh (24), Rahul (24), and Vishal alias Golu (28). Officials described the killing as a premeditated act, executed strategically to avoid surveillance cameras.

Further investigation is ongoing to determine if more individuals were involved in the conspiracy.
