Delhi: A 43-year-old man was shot dead and his daughter injured in a targeted attack by unidentified assailants in Delhi’s Bawana area on Friday morning, police said.

The victim, identified as Dipak, sustained multiple gunshot wounds and died on the spot. His daughter, who was with him at the time, suffered a bullet injury to her hand. She was rushed to hospital and is reported to be out of danger, an officer said.

A case has been registered, and multiple police teams have been deployed to trace the shooters. “The motive behind the attack is still under investigation,” the officer added.

Forensic experts have examined the crime scene, and CCTV footage from the surrounding area is being reviewed as part of the probe.

Meanwhile, a day before his birthday, 29-year-old Ajit Kumar Tripathi was gunned down outside his flat in north Delhi’s Burari on Tuesday night, leaving his family shattered.

The incident occurred around 10 pm at Hoovers Apartment. Police said they found Ajit with gunshot wounds and rushed him to hospital, where he was declared dead.

Preliminary investigation pointed to an argument between Ajit and the accused, Arun Dedha (33), a resident of Gamri, that escalated into a fatal confrontation. “The verbal spat turned physical, and Dedha opened fire,” an officer said. Teams have been formed to track him down.

However, Ajit’s family claims it was a planned killing orchestrated by his former friend Bobby Upadhyay, with whom he had an old business and personal dispute. “Ajit had just returned from work and was discussing his birthday plans when he was confronted and shot,” said his sister, Kiran Tripathi.

Ajit’s mother alleged years of harassment over a failed business deal, while his father accused Bobby of building an illegal fortune and destroying their son’s life. “I urge Chief Minister Rekha Gupta to intervene and ensure strict punishment,” he said.

Police are probing all angles, including rivalry and financial enmity. A case has been registered, and investigations continue.
