Police in northwest Delhi have arrested a man for allegedly strangling his wife and burying her near railway tracks. The man’s mother and a minor were also apprehended after their involvement was disclosed by the accused.

The victim, identified as Sapna (25), lived with her husband Vicky (19) and in-laws. Her disappearance was reported by her mother, Savitri, on January 25, after Sapna’s in-laws failed to provide information about her whereabouts.

According to police, Savitri stated in her complaint that she witnessed Sapna having a quarrel with her in-laws on December 24. Despite her attempts to intervene, she was sent back home. Subsequent inquiries with her in-laws yielded no information about Sapna’s location.

On February 8, authorities received a call reporting the discovery of a body wrapped in a bed cover near railway tracks in a greenbelt area. The body was identified by Sapna’s mother based on distinctive features, including a tattoo on her left hand.

An autopsy revealed the cause of death to be “manual strangulation,” prompting the case to be classified as a homicide.

Suspicion arose regarding Vicky’s involvement when it was discovered that his mobile phone had been switched off since December 26. Following interrogation and collection of evidence, Vicky confessed to the crime, implicating his mother and a minor in the process.

Vicky disclosed that his relationship with Sapna had soured following a miscarriage she experienced in October. A heated argument on the night of December 26 escalated into violence, resulting in Sapna’s death at Vicky’s hands. The trio then buried her body in a pit.

An FIR has been registered, and investigations are ongoing.
