The Delhi Police on Friday nabbed an absconding criminal after a seven-year long chase.
Armed with a team of three, the police team from Patel Nagar had been tracking the culprit, identified as Anil alias Hunny, who had been hiding for the past seven years having been on the run. According to the police, he had fled his home during trial to escape punishment for a brawling incident. He was 28 when he was booked for offences under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
The charges included Sections 323 (voluntary causing of hurt), 341 (wrongful restraint), 506 (criminal intimidation), and 34 (common intention). When he was apprehended, it was found that Anil had taken up a job as a driver for a property dealer at Bhalswa Dairy. The police highlighted that they had been tracking him for the past 15 days.
“We formed a special team of three personnel alongside a network of multiple informants who were tasked with tracking him down and feeding us with the necessary information,” said a senior police official involved closely with the case.
Eventually, the police were able to pinpoint the location of the absconder to an area near Bhalswa Dairy, when his number was reactivated from the spot on April 24.
Presently, the absconder has been sent to judicial custody, following a rather successful technical and manual surveillance on him.
His capture is the first in the programme of the Central Police Range, where the officers have initiated a special drive against absconding criminals.
