
Delhi recorded the highest crime rate under the Government Railway Police (GRP) among all states and Union Territories in 2024, with 24.3 cases registered per lakh population, according to the latest NCRB data.
The national capital reported 5,315 GRP cases in 2024, an increase from 5,176 cases in 2023 and 3,243 in 2022, the data showed.
Among major states, Maharashtra registered the highest number of GRP cases at 20,519 in 2024, followed by Madhya Pradesh with 12,931 and Gujarat with 8,220 cases. However, Delhi topped the list in terms of crime rate.
Kerala reported the second-highest GRP crime rate at 19.5, followed by Maharashtra at 16.1 and Madhya Pradesh at 14.7.
The NCRB‘s “Cases Registered by GRP” data includes offences registered by railway police units under provisions of the Indian Penal Code/Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Special and Local Laws.

Across the country, a total of 83,699 GRP cases were registered in 2024, marginally lower than the 83,877 cases recorded in 2023, while the all-India crime rate stood at 6.0.
