Delhi Traffic Police has issued more than 18,000 drunk driving challans as of September 15 this year, marking the highest total in the last three years, according to official data.
The police have recorded a total of 18,478 challans for drunk driving up to September 15, as stated in the data.
In comparison, the figures for previous years were 16,235 in 2023 and 2,320 in 2022.
The highest number of challans was issued in the west district with 1,973, followed by the southeast district with 1,902, central with 1,752, south with 1,733, north with 1,731, outer north with 1,384, and east with 1,382. There are 15 police districts in Delhi, and the fewest challans were reported in the Shahdara district, totalling 540, according to the data.

The police have urged commuters to follow traffic rules, particularly advising against drinking and driving.
Driving under the influence of alcohol not only jeopardises the driver’s safety but also endangers pedestrians and other drivers on the roads, they emphasised.
