A 19-year-old alleged gang member was apprehended after a brief firefight with the police in northwest Delhi’s Majlis Park, an official said on Thursday.
The exchange of fire occurred around 3.50 AM on Thursday near the Majlis Park Metro Station.
The accused, identified as Nitin alias Chor, a resident of Jahangirpuri, was wanted in a case of firing and attempt to murder registered at the Jahangirpuri Police Station, he added.
“Nitin opened fire at the police team in a bid to escape. In retaliation, the police also fired back. A total of four rounds were exchanged between the accused and the police,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northwest) Bhisham Singh said in a statement.
The accused was shot in his left leg and rushed to hospital for treatment. He is out of danger now, the officer added.
Nitin is a member of a local gang engaged in serious criminal activities, the police alleged, claiming that he is a known criminal in the Jahangirpuri area.

“His arrest will help us solve many other cases linked to the gang,” the DCP stated.
Meanwhile, the police recovered a pistol, two empty cartridges, and a motorcycle from Nitin’s possession, and further investigation is underway.
