A 24-year-old woman has been arrested for allegedly killing the son of her live-in partner and stuffing his body in a bed box, according to the police.

The accused identified as Pooja Kumari, a resident of Ranhola, killed 11-year-old Divyansh, the son of her live-in-boyfriend Jitender.

The incident took place in Ranhola, and the police have charged Pooja with the crime. The authorities stated that the alleged murder occurred on August 10.

According to officials, the motive behind the crime was linked to a strained relationship between Pooja and Jitender. Pooja was reportedly in a live-in relationship with Jitender, who was already married and had a son, Divyansh. Jitender had promised Pooja that he would marry her legally after obtaining a divorce from his wife. The two had been living together in a rented house.

However, tensions arose between Pooja and Jitender over the issue of his divorce from his wife. Despite initial assurances, Jitender decided against divorcing his wife, leading to a fallout between him and Pooja, said police.

They said in December of the previous year, Jitender moved out of the shared residence and returned to his wife, leaving Pooja distraught.

They added that feeling resentful and believing that Jitender’s decision was due to his attachment to his son, Pooja hatched a plan for revenge.

According to police, on the evening of the incident, she visited Jitender’s house, which was in JJ Colony, Inderpuri.

Finding the door unlocked and Divyansh asleep, she took advantage of the situation. Pooja reportedly strangled the boy while he was sleeping and then concealed his lifeless body within the bed. After locking the door, she fled the scene, said police.

They said that the crime came to light when Divyansh’s body was discovered at BLK Hospital, showing signs of strangulation.

They added that upon receiving this information, the police launched an investigation. They reviewed footage from various CCTV cameras, ultimately identifying Pooja Kumari as the last person seen entering the boy’s residence. The collected evidence from over 300 cameras led to her arrest.

Pooja’s actions have been attributed to her anger and frustration over Jitender’s decision to return to his wife, rather than staying with her. As a result, she allegedly took this extreme step out of revenge. The police have charged Pooja Kumari with murder under section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), police said.
