Delhi Police have apprehended six individuals and taken two juveniles into custody in connection with the fatal stabbing of a man and the injuring of another in the Harit Vihar area of north Delhi, officials said on Monday.
Law enforcement recovered the alleged murder weapon, as well as a scooter and motorcycle belonging to the suspects.
The individuals in custody have been identified as Umesh (23), Lala (22), Chintu (23), Mohit (19), Rohita (19), Sumit (20), and two juveniles.
According to police sources, they responded to a PCR call on March 26 at 6 pm reporting the stabbing of two individuals in the Harit Vihar area.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (north) M K Meena said that upon arrival, the injured had already been transported to Burari Hospital. “One of the victims, identified as Akhilesh Kumar (26), succumbed to his injuries after sustaining three stab wounds to the upper body. The other victim, Chandan Kumar (42), survived,” Meena reported.
Chandan Kumar recounted to police that he, along with Akhilesh and other labourers, were working on a construction site in Harit Vihar when two intoxicated individuals on a motorcycle approached them, questioning their activities and hurling abuse.
“After being confronted by Akhilesh and the other labourers, the individuals fled the scene,” explained the DCP.
Later, the same individuals returned with accomplices and attacked Akhilesh and Kumar, resulting in the fatal stabbing.
An FIR has been filed under various sections of the IPC, including murder and attempted murder, at Burari Police Station.
“We have apprehended six suspects and taken two juveniles into custody from different locations. Additionally, we have recovered the murder weapon, a scooter, and a motorcycle belonging to the suspects,” said the DCP, noting that the investigation is ongoing. (With inputs from PTI)
