An 85-year-old woman was allegedly raped and brutally assaulted by an unidentified man in Delhi in the early hours of Friday, a DCW official said.
The accused even punched her face, slit her lips with a blade, and tried to strangle her, the official added.
In a statement issued on Friday, the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) said that they have received information of rape with an 85-year-old woman who lives in a slum in Shakurpur area of Delhi.
The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) has taken swift action by issuing a notice to the city police regarding a disturbing incident in the Shakurpur area. An 85-year-old woman, who was residing alone in a slum, reported a horrifying ordeal where an intruder entered her living space at approximately 4 am and sexually assaulted her, according to the DCW.
In addition to the sexual assault, the victim revealed that the assailant physically attacked her, causing injuries to her face, a laceration on her lip from a blade, and an attempted strangulation, DCW said.
The victim sustained injuries not only on her face but throughout her body, including her private parts, as stated in the notice sent to the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northwest) district.
The DCW has taken a proactive stance by requesting a copy of the First Information Report (FIR) filed in this case and inquiring whether the police maintain a list of elderly individuals living alone within the district. This move underscores the importance of ensuring the safety and security of vulnerable individuals in the community.
The DCW has set a deadline of September 5 for the police to provide an action taken report on this distressing matter, signaling the urgency and seriousness with which they are addressing the case. (With inputs from PTI)
