In a shocking incident in northwest Delhi’s Shahbad Dairy area, a 16-year-old girl was brutally stabbed multiple times and stoned to death in full public view. The accused, identified as Sahil, who is 20 years old, allegedly carried out the gruesome act, stabbing the victim over 20 times before bludgeoning her with a stone. A video capturing the incident has been widely circulated on social media.
Sahil was later apprehended by the Delhi Police in Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh. He was arrested in connection with the murder and was known to work as a fridge and AC mechanic. The police are currently investigating the motive behind the murder, as the reason remains unknown. The victim, a resident of JJ Colony in Shahbad Dairy, was found lying in the street after the brutal attack.
The video footage depicts several onlookers passing by the scene, showing alarm but failing to intervene or stop the accused. Sahil managed to escape from the spot following the heinous crime.
The victim and the accused were reportedly in a relationship but had an argument on Saturday. On Sunday, the victim intended to attend a birthday party but was confronted and repeatedly stabbed by Sahil. She was also struck with a stone. The victim’s father lodged a complaint, leading to the registration of a case under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code at the Shahbad Dairy police station.
The incident drew strong criticism from various quarters, with Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal directing his ire at Lt Governor VK Saxena, urging him to take action as law and order in Delhi falls under his purview.
“A minor girl was brutally murdered in Delhi. This is very sad and unfortunate. The criminals have become fearless, there is no fear of the police. L-G sir, law and order is your responsibility, please do something,” he said in a tweet in Hindi.
Delhi women’s panel head, Swati Maliwal, said a notice has been issued to police over the incident. “The crime was captured on CCTV. Several people saw this, but did not pay heed. Delhi has become extremely unsafe for women and girls,” she said.
BJP leader Kapil Mishra drew attention to the murder, drawing parallels to the unsolved case of Shraddha Walkar, whose body was dismembered. He expressed concern over the brutality of such acts and the need for justice. Atishi, a senior AAP leader, also criticized the Lt Governor, emphasizing his responsibility to protect the people of Delhi, particularly women.
