Delhi Police has apprehended a 24-year-old man for allegedly murdering his brother-in-law by crushing his head with a grindstone before stabbing him multiple times in the Khichripur area of east Delhi, officials said on Tuesday.
The suspect, identified as Manish Kumar, was reportedly angry over his brother-in-law’s treatment of his sister, which included humiliation, harassment, and physical abuse while under the influence of alcohol after their marriage, according to police.
“On November 2, a PCR call was received regarding a disturbance in Khichripur. Upon arrival, the police found the caller, Manish Kumar, in the kitchen area on the third floor of the residence.
“During initial questioning, Kumar admitted to killing his brother-in-law Abhishek, also known as Hallan, with the assistance of an accomplice,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Apoorva Gupta.
Following the suspect’s disclosures, police discovered Abhishek’s blood-soaked body wrapped in a mat in another room of the house, the officer said.
“The deceased had multiple stab wounds on his neck and forehead. Police transported him to a nearby hospital where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival. An investigation has been initiated after registering a murder case,” the DCP added.
During questioning, Kumar disclosed that his sister had married Abhishek against her family’s wishes after eloping with him two years prior.
However, he claimed that soon after the marriage, their relationship deteriorated as Abhishek began to humiliate and harass his sister, frequently demanding money from her. When she failed to provide it, he would physically assault her, police said.
Frustrated by the constant abuse, she eventually left Abhishek’s home and returned to her parents’ house, police added.
On November 2, Abhishek visited his in-laws’ residence to bring his wife back. When she refused, he brandished a knife and threatened to kill everyone while intoxicated, as per Kumar’s statements.
“In a fit of rage, the accused struck Abhishek multiple times on the head with a grindstone. He also stabbed him several times in the neck and forehead. Kumar has named Mukesh Kumar (19) as his accomplice in the crime,” the DCP noted, adding that the police have recovered the murder weapons, a mat, a bedsheet, and the clothes worn by the accused.
