A 36-year-old man was reportedly shot by his friend following a minor altercation in New Usmanpur, northeast Delhi, police said on Thursday.

The victim, identified as Naveel, is employed at an aluminium smelting factory and resides with his family in Gautam Vihar in New Usmanpur, as per the authorities.

According to a police officer, the incident unfolded when Naveel was gathered outside his residence with his acquaintances Sadiq, 30, and Nadeem Khan, 30. Allegedly, Nadeem’s younger brother, Junaid, 25, arrived at the scene brandishing a homemade pistol.

“In an attempt to flaunt the firearm, Junaid recklessly fired a shot towards the ground, resulting in Sadiq and Nadeem sustaining minor injuries from bullet fragments and pellets on their toes and legs,” mentioned the officer.

Confronted by Naveel over the reckless act, Junaid, allegedly fuelled by anger, fired at Naveel, hitting him in his left thigh, said the police.

It was revealed that Junaid also worked at the aluminium smelting factory, and police teams have been mobilised to apprehend him.

A case has been registered under Section 307 IPC r/w 25/27 Arms Act at New Usmanpur police station. (With inputs from PTI)
