A tragic incident unfolded in Delhi’s Rohini area where a woman succumbed to burns allegedly inflicted by her husband, police said.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Rohini) G S Sidhu disclosed that the distressing event took place in the Begumpur area on Monday.

According to Sidhu, the Begumpur police station received a distress call reporting a fire outbreak at a residence where individuals were potentially trapped. Responding swiftly, a team was dispatched, promptly informing fire officials.

Upon arrival, the police found the main gate locked from within. Firefighters worked swiftly to extinguish the flames. Subsequent inspection of the premises revealed a critically injured woman, unresponsive and engulfed in burns. Rushed to a hospital, she was pronounced dead by medical professionals.

Meanwhile, another distress call from a separate hospital reported the admission of an injured man and his two children. Investigating further, the authorities identified the injured man as the deceased woman’s husband.

The daughter of the injured man informed the police that a dispute between her parents escalated, leading her father to douse her mother with kerosene and set her ablaze, the DCP informed.

An FIR under section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been lodged, and investigations are ongoing, the officer concluded. (With inputs from PTI)
