A woman hailing from Darjeeling, West Bengal, was allegedly subjected to torture, including sexual assault by her friend for a week. The accused “poured hot dal” on her, causing burn injuries on her body.

The accused, identified as 28-year-old Paras, has been charged with rape, sodomy, and causing bodily harm. Paras was arrested on February 2.

The victim had been residing with Paras for approximately a month in a rented residence located in Raju Park within the Neb Sarai area of south Delhi, police said.

The incident came to light on January 30 when the Neb Sarai police station received a distress call reporting a woman being assaulted by her partner.

Upon receiving the call, law enforcement rescued the woman and took her to AIIMS for medical attention. She displayed around 20 visible injuries upon admission, though has since been discharged.

During the subsequent investigation, it was revealed that the victim, hailing from Darjeeling, had established contact with Paras over the phone several months prior.

The victim had planned to travel to Bengaluru in early January for a job opportunity as a domestic worker, with a layover in Delhi. Paras invited her to stay with him, promising assistance in securing employment.

However, the situation deteriorated rapidly, with Paras allegedly subjecting the victim to physical and sexual abuse over the course of a week, as per her testimony. Shockingly, at one point, Paras purportedly scalded her with hot lentils, causing burn injuries.

Acting on the victim’s complaint, authorities filed an FIR on January 30 under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, leading to Paras’s arrest on February 2. Paras, originally from Uttarakhand, worked as a cook at a local establishment in Delhi.

The investigation into the matter remains ongoing.
