The Delhi Police detained four men with approximately Rs 3 crore in cash from the Jharera flyover in southwest Delhi, officials said on Sunday. Their motorcycles were also confiscated.
A senior police officer stated, “Acting on a tip-off, a team from the Subroto Park police post barricaded the area and intercepted two motorcycles carrying four men with two large black bags.”
“The team seized about Rs 3 crore in the two bags. We suspect it’s ‘hawala’ money and have initiated an investigation,” the officer added.
The detained men, residents of Shahdara aged between 22 and 27, were found in possession of the money, believed to belong to a scrap dealer in Shahdara.
“In compliance with Election Commission guidelines, the information was relayed to senior officers of the election flying squad and Income Tax authorities,” the officer concluded. (With inputs from PTI)
