Property dealer arrested for duping retired govt employee of Rs 1.75 crore

Delhi Police has arrested a 67-year-old property dealer, who allegedly duped a retired government employee of Rs 1.75 crore by using forged property documents to sell multiple plots in Dwarka, officials said on Thursday.

The accused, Brahm Swaroop Bhardwaj, was carrying a reward of Rs 50,000 and had been absconding for nearly a year, they said.

The complainant, a retired government servant who had worked as a pharmacist at Tihar Jail, was allegedly cheated during 2024-25 on the pretext of sale and purchase of multiple plots of land, police said.

According to police, Bhardwaj, along with his associates, allegedly used forged property documents to target the victim’s pension corpus of around Rs 1.75 crore.

An FIR was registered in connection with the case. Non-bailable warrants were subsequently obtained against the accused, police said.

A reward of Rs 50,000 had been declared for the accused in the case through an order dated September 3, 2026.

Bhardwaj was traced to Sonipat in Haryana and apprehended on September 13, bringing his nearly year-long run from the law to an end, they said.

The accused was produced before a court after his arrest, police said, adding that further investigation is underway.
