Two men have been convicted by a Delhi court in a snatching case within just 24 days of the registration of the FIR under a speedy trial initiative, an officer said on Wednesday.

The case pertains to a snatching incident reported in the Subhash Place area on June 13, following which an FIR was registered. Police said a team arrested two accused men, Parveen (23), and Rahul (22), during the course of the probe.

The stolen mobile phone and the complainant’s Aadhaar card were recovered from the accused and seized. Police completed the investigation promptly and filed the chargesheet before the court within the prescribed time.

The case was taken up under the speedy trial initiative before the court.

According to police, the prosecution relied on the testimony of the complainant, statements of police witnesses and the recovery of the stolen articles to establish the case against the accused.

“On July 7, the court convicted both the accused. The matter has now been listed for arguments on the quantum of sentence,” a senior police officer said.

Police said Parveen is a habitual offender and has previously been involved in nine criminal cases, including those related to theft, house theft and offences under the Arms Act.
