Three men were arrested for allegedly running a fake educational certificate racket and supplying forged class 10 and class 12 mark sheets using the expired registration of an educational institution, Delhi Police said on Wednesday.

The accused have been identified as Navneet Tyagi (53), Sabab Alam (41), and Fareed Ahmad Saifi (49), they said.

According to police, the racket was discovered following a tip-off received on June 30 that Tyagi was allegedly preparing and supplying fake educational certificates and mark sheets.

“To verify the information, police deployed a decoy customer who shared his photograph, Aadhaar card and class 10 mark sheet with the suspect through social media for preparation of a fake class 12 mark sheet,” a senior police officer said.

Based on the verification, a police team conducted a raid near Miraz Cinema on GT Road in Shahdara on July 17 and apprehended Tyagi. Two fake educational mark sheets — for class 10 and 12 — were recovered from his possession, police said.

An FIR was registered at Shahdara police station. Tyagi was questioned and traced his alleged associates, Alam and Saifi. The two were subsequently arrested and a laptop, printer and other equipment allegedly used for preparing forged educational certificates and mark sheets were seized.

During interrogation, the accused confessed to operating the racket and disclosed that they had supplied around 100 to 150 fake certificates and mark sheets to various individuals, charging between Rs 5,000 and Rs 10,000 for each forged document, according to police.

“Further investigation revealed that the accused were allegedly misusing the expired registration of “Gramin Mukt Vidyalaya Shiksha Sansthan” to issue backdated certificates and mark sheets, misleading candidates as well as authorities,” they said.

The racket had established an organised network for preparing and supplying forged educational credentials. Further investigation is underway, they said.
