Delhi Police have arrested three women accused of stealing gold jewellery worth Rs 4 lakh from a commuter travelling on the Delhi Metro, an official said on Wednesday.

The incident took place at approximately 4:20 pm on 30 March, when the complainant, accompanied by his mother, grandmother, and a friend, was alighting from a Yellow Line train at Rajiv Chowk Metro Station.

The theft came to light when an e-FIR was lodged on 1 April. Acting swiftly, a police team was formed and officers began analysing CCTV footage from various metro stations. The visuals revealed that three women had boarded the train at Karol Bagh Metro Station and positioned themselves close to the complainant and his family.

Further examination of the onboard footage helped confirm the identity of the suspects.

Subsequently, on 8 April, a police team conducted a raid in the Faridpuri area and apprehended the trio.

While Indukala had no prior criminal record, Nita and Suman were found to be repeat offenders. Nita has three previous theft cases against her, including incidents at Kartavya Path and Yamuna Depot metro stations. Suman is named in five previous theft cases, with FIRs registered at both Yamuna Depot and Rajiv Chowk stations.

All three women have been remanded to judicial custody. Police said further investigation is underway to ascertain their involvement in other similar thefts across the Delhi Metro network.
