Two alleged criminals were arrested after they rammed their motorcycle into a police head constable and attacked him while trying to escape in Keshav Puram area of northwest Delhi, police said on Wednesday.

The accused were identified as Shahil alias Dudda (24) and Sunny alias Golu (25), both residents of Mangolpuri, they said.

According to police, the incident took place on September 13 when Head Constable Ramesh Kumar was patrolling near a gurdwara in Keshav Puram. He noticed masked men riding a motorcycle suspiciously and signalled them to stop.

“The accused accelerated and rammed their motorcycle into the policeman’s bike, causing him to fall. When he tried to apprehend them, the pillion rider kicked him on the leg,” a senior police officer said.

Despite sustaining injuries, Kumar, with the help of public, managed to apprehend both men. The accused were subsequently taken into custody by police personnel.

The motorcycle used by them was found stolen from Mangolpuri. Two stolen mobile phones and three stolen two-wheelers were later recovered from their possession, leading to the detection of five cases registered in Keshav Puram, Ashok Vihar, Shalimar Bagh and Mangolpuri, the officer said.

Police said that Sunny is a bad character of Mangolpuri police station and has been previously involved in 10 cases, while Shahil has two previous cases. Further investigation is underway.
