Delhi: Two men have been arrested for allegedly stealing Rs 4.20 lakh from an office in central Delhi’s Anand Parbat area, police said on Monday.

The accused were identified as Vijay alias Chhotu (41), and Sanjay Bhatt (45), they said.

According to police, the theft took place in the early hours of September 11 when Rs 4.20 lakh kept in a drawer at the office counter was stolen after the lock and shutter were opened.

An FIR was registered and an investigation was launched. A team analysed CCTV footage and used technical surveillance to trace the suspect. Vijay was subsequently traced to Barath Malla in Pauri Garhwal and arrested on September 12.

“Further investigation revealed the involvement of Sanjay, who had been working at the complainant’s office for the last 20-25 years and was aware that a large amount of cash was kept there,” a senior police officer said.

Sanjay allegedly shared the information about the cash with his relative Vijay and deliberately left the shutter lock unlocked to facilitate the theft.

“Teams have recovered some cash, a mobile phone purchased from the stolen money from Vijay. Efforts are underway to recover the remaining stolen amount,” he added.
