In a shocking incident that contrasts with an overall decline in crime across the capital, two men died after stabbing each other during a scuffle in West Delhi’s Khyala area late on Sunday night, police said.

The confrontation occurred around 11 pm in a local park, where the two men—long-time acquaintances and residents of B Block, Khyala—were sitting together. “An argument broke out, which quickly escalated into a violent fight. Both men pulled out knives and stabbed each other,” a police official said on Monday.

Locals who witnessed the incident rushed the victims to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital, where they were declared brought dead. Khyala police later received a PCR call from the hospital, confirming that both men had succumbed to their injuries. Preliminary investigations suggest that the two had known each other for several years. The exact cause of the dispute remains under inquiry.

The double fatality comes at a time when Delhi Police reports show an 8.38 per cent decline in total crimes registered in the first half of 2025 compared to the same period last year. From January 1 to June 30, the city recorded 1,18,822 cases under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Indian Penal Code (IPC), down from 1,29,693 in 2024.

While heinous crimes such as murder, rape, robbery and kidnapping dropped by over 13 per cent compared to 2023, the number of murder cases actually rose slightly—from 241 in 2024 to 250 in 2025. Police have attributed the overall decline to better surveillance, focused patrolling, and targeted action against repeat offenders.
