Woman ‘killed’ by live-in partner in south Delhi

A 27-year-old woman was allegedly killed by her live-in partner in southwest Delhi’s Munirka locality over suspicions of infidelity, the police said on Saturday.

The accused, identified as Jagminthang, a native of Senapati district in Manipur, was arrested on Tuesday, officials confirmed.

The victim, Lhing Janeng, hailed from Churachandpur district, also in Manipur.

“A PCR call was received at around 1:57 pm on 8 April, reporting the discovery of a woman’s body with visible injuries near a medical store at Kranti Chowk in Munirka. A police team was dispatched immediately and found the woman lying dead inside a room on the fifth floor of a building,” a police officer said.

Investigations revealed that Janeng had been residing at the address for the past two years and had been living with Lhing for the last year.

On the night of the incident, the couple had hosted a party attended by three others – Kapgoulal, Nemneithem, and Kimneithem. The gathering continued until midnight, after which the guests departed.

At some point later that night, Jagminthang allegedly assaulted Lhing, driven by suspicions of her involvement with another man from the nearby Kishangarh area.

“During the inspection, multiple injury marks were found on the body. The crime and forensic teams examined the scene. A post-mortem was conducted at Safdarjung Hospital, where the preliminary verbal report by the autopsy surgeon indicated physical assault as the probable cause of death,” the officer said.

According to statements from the party attendees, Lhing had been assaulted two days earlier and was also threatened during the gathering.

Based on the medico-legal report, a case was registered under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which pertains to culpable homicide not amounting to murder.

“During interrogation, the accused initially attempted to mislead investigators. However, following sustained questioning and technical analysis, he confessed to the crime,” the officer added.
