One hundred fourteen senior citizens residing in senior citizens’ homes in Delhi and the National Capital Region will receive 662 assistive devices worth over Rs 10 lakh under the Rashtriya Vayoshri Yojana (RVY) on Friday, the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment said on Thursday.
Union Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Virendra Kumar will distribute the devices at a programme at the Dr Ambedkar International Centre here while Minister of State B L Verma will also attend the event, the ministry said.
The beneficiaries were identified through assessment camps conducted in September, with the assistive devices selected according to their individual needs, it said.
The devices include folding wheelchairs, commode wheelchairs, crutches, walking sticks, behind-the-ear (BTE) hearing aids, spinal supports, walkers, cervical collars, chairs with commodes, knee braces, lumbar sacral (LS) belts, tripods, tetrapods and silicone foam cushions.
The ministry said the initiative is aimed at enabling senior citizens to live with dignity, independence and better health.
The RVY, launched on April 1, 2017, is fully funded by the Centre and provides free assistive devices to eligible senior citizens suffering from age-related physical frailty.
Since its launch, more than 55 lakh assistive devices have been provided to more than 10 lakh senior citizens across the country, with women accounting for about 45 per cent of the beneficiaries, the ministry said.
The scheme is implemented by the Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO), a public sector undertaking under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.

The plantation drive will be held on the occasion of Swachh Bharat Diwas and will promote environmental sustainability, cleanliness and collective responsibility, the ministry said.
