
A 13-year-old girl was allegedly raped in tempo at an isolated place in the Burari area of north Delhi, the police reported on Sunday.
The suspect, identified as a school dropout who works as a tempo driver, has been apprehended, and efforts are being made to verify his age.
According to the police, the incident occurred on June 8 at around 7:30 pm, while the victim was taking a walk with her friend near her residence. The friend was acquainted with the accused and requested a ride in his three-wheeler.
Initially hesitant, the two girls eventually agreed to accompany the man. He dropped off the victim’s friend at her home and then took the victim to an isolated location in Ajit Vihar, within the Shakti Enclave area, where he allegedly raped her inside the vehicle.
Based on the victim’s statement, the accused has been charged under sections 376 (rape) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code, as well as the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. The Deputy Commissioner of Police (North), Sagar Singh Kalsi, confirmed that the accused has been apprehended. The victim has received counseling, and a medical examination has been conducted in accordance with the prescribed procedure. The vehicle has been seized for forensic examination, and further investigation is currently underway.
