In an incident in West Delhi’s Baba Haridas Nagar, three individuals have been apprehended for allegedly orchestrating a robbery amounting to Rs 3.20 crore by impersonating officials from the Enforcement Directorate, as per the police statement on Sunday.
The robbery transpired on Friday night when the perpetrators entered the residence of the complainant and, wielding firearms, forcefully seized the money. The police reported that they have recovered Rs 1.27 crore from the accused thus far.
A senior police official provided details, stating, “We received a PCR call in the early hours of Saturday. The complainant, Ravi, reported that around 8 pm on Friday, while he was standing near his home, a white Swift car pulled up. Three individuals alighted, claiming to be from the ED department, and instructed him to get into the car.”
According to the official, two individuals in a Hyundai i10 car trailed the initial vehicle. The accused, armed with a pistol, coerced the complainant into surrendering the money he had obtained from the sale of his property, alleging that the entire sum constituted illicit funds.
“Afterward, the culprits took Ravi to his home, where they seized a box containing Rs 3.20 crore and snatched the mobile phones of both him and his mother. Subsequently, the accused fled the scene, dropping Ravi near a petrol pump. He then contacted the police,” the official added.
The complainant had received the amount following the sale of his property. In response to his complaint, an FIR was filed, and a dedicated team was constituted.
A statement from the police indicated that one of the accused, identified as Amit from Gohana in Haryana, was apprehended. The police recovered around Rs 70 lakh in cash, a pistol, and the i10 car used in the crime.
Following Amit’s interrogation, the police arrested two more individuals, Rohit (21) and Manish, and recovered additional funds. The total amount recovered thus far is Rs 1.27 crore. The official mentioned ongoing raids in Delhi, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh by multiple police teams to apprehend the remaining suspects.
