Around 70 students were hospitalised on Friday following the consumption of a mid-day meal at a government school located in the Dabri area of southwest Delhi.

Officials said that the Delhi government has taken action by issuing a show cause notice to the mid-day meal provider responsible for this incident.

A Delhi government representative said that all affected children are now in stable condition. The incident prompted a warning to mid-day meal providers, emphasizing the necessity of providing safe and appropriate food to school children. The official emphasized that those found accountable for the situation will face consequences.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police Manoj C, around 6 pm, the Sagarpur police station received a PCR call reporting that nearly 70 boys from Class VI to VIII had experienced vomiting after consuming a mid-day meal at Sarvodaya Bal Vidyalaya School in Durgapark, Sagarpur. The affected students were subsequently transported to DDU Hospital and Dada Dev Hospital in Dabri. School authorities indicated that the students were offered soya juice after the meal, which led to stomach pain and vomiting.

The police dispatched a crime team to the location, where remnants of the food and juice were collected as evidence. The mid-day meal consisted of puri subji followed by soya juice. Distribution of food and juice was halted upon the students’ complaints of discomfort. As of now, all students are in stable condition.

An FIR (First Information Report) will be filed, and a comprehensive investigation into the incident will be conducted, according to the Deputy Commissioner of Police. (With inputs from PTI)
