Ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections scheduled for February 5, over 730 cases of alleged violations of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) have been registered, according to an official statement released on Monday. These cases were recorded between January 7, when the MCC came into effect, and January 26. During the same period, authorities arrested a total of 22,857 individuals under various legal provisions, including the Excise Act.

To ensure the elections proceed smoothly, Delhi Police has stepped up its vigilance efforts, particularly at border checkpoints, and launched extensive crackdowns on illegal activities such as arms, liquor, and drug smuggling.

A report by law enforcement officials detailed significant seizures made during this drive. Police have recorded 738 cases of alleged MCC violations, confiscated 364 illegal firearms, and recovered 445 cartridges. Additionally, authorities seized a massive haul of 61,610 litres of liquor, estimated to be worth over Rs 1.8 crore.

Further efforts to curb illegal drug activities have led to the seizure of 156.411 kilograms of drugs, valued at over Rs 72 crore, alongside more than 1,200 banned injections. Authorities also confiscated Rs 6.36 crore in unaccounted cash and 37.39 kilograms of silver during their operations.

The Election Commission and law enforcement agencies have been actively monitoring and addressing violations to ensure free and fair elections across all 70 Assembly constituencies in Delhi. Security has been tightened, and coordination between agencies has been enhanced to deter any attempts to disrupt the electoral process.
