Arvind Kejriwal
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener Arvind Kejriwal has raised concerns over the deployment of eight State Reserve Police Force (SRPF) companies from Gujarat for the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections.
According to Commandant SRPF, Bhachau, Tejas Patel, the SRPF units arrived in Delhi on January 13 following an order from the Election Commission (EC).
On Saturday, Kejriwal shared a circular on X (formerly Twitter) issued by the office of the Additional Director General of Police (DGP), Armed Unit, regarding the deployment of SRPF for the Delhi elections. “Read this order of Gujarat Police. Election Commission has removed Punjab Police from Delhi and deployed Gujarat Police. What is going on?” Kejriwal questioned in his post.
Kejriwal’s remarks came a day after the withdrawal of Punjab Police personnel assigned to his personal security, a move he described as “pure politics.” He further stated that personal safety and security should not be politicised.
Punjab’s Director General of Police, Gaurav Yadav, clarified that the withdrawal of Punjab Police personnel from Kejriwal’s security was carried out based on instructions from the Delhi Police and the EC.
