Mayor Shelly Oberoi announced on Thursday that auto-tipper garbage vehicles will be operational during nighttime in areas within the jurisdiction of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi facing a shortage of such vehicles. The primary goal is to ensure the efficient collection of waste in these regions.
In a statement, Mayor Shelly Oberoi mentioned that an agency will be appointed for the maintenance of MCD parks as part of the comprehensive plan to make Delhi garbage-free.
Under the new initiative led by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)-led MCD, auto-tippers will be deployed during nighttime in wards experiencing a shortage of garbage-lifting vehicles. This strategic move aims to prevent the accumulation of waste on the streets and public spaces.
Additionally, Oberoi highlighted that services of the agency would be enlisted for tree pruning activities in the designated areas. The Mayor shared these details during a meeting with the councillors of Shahdara (South) Zone held at the Civic Centre.
During the meeting, the councillors apprised Mayor Oberoi of the challenges encountered in their respective wards. They emphasized that despite regular garbage collection by an appointed company, scattered waste at ‘dhalaos’ (dump yards) persisted in their areas, mainly due to the activities of rag-pickers. This posed significant inconvenience for local residents.
Addressing this concern, Mayor Oberoi directed the deputy commissioner to install cemented blocks in front of every ‘dhalaos’ to prevent spillage of garbage. She further emphasized the importance of auto-tippers operating during nighttime in specific wards, where the need was identified. Additionally, Mayor Oberoi suggested the implementation of GPS tracking on the auto-tippers to enable councillors to monitor their movements effectively.
