BSNL has installed 98,557 indigenous 4G sites across India, including Delhi and Mumbai, with the equipment capable of being upgraded to 5G, the government informed the Lok Sabha on Wednesday.
As of July 31, 97,213 of the installed sites were on-air, against the one lakh sites planned under the indigenous 4G rollout.
In Delhi, MTNL continues to operate and had 5,71,748 landline subscribers and 1,33,080 mobile subscribers as of March 31, 2026, Minister of State for Communications and Rural Development Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar said in a written reply.
The government said the launch of 5G services in Delhi and Mumbai has the potential to increase the number of mobile subscribers. It added that an exclusive franchisee network has been established in the two service areas, while the number of SIM-selling points has been increasing progressively, which could boost SIM sales and subscriber acquisition.
