A speeding car rear-ended an auto-rickshaw carrying three passengers in east Delhi’s Shakarpur area, after which the driver fled the spot, an official said on Saturday.
“No injuries were reported to any of the occupants of the auto,” the officer said.
After receiving a call regarding a road accident at the Shakarpur police station, a police team rushed to the spot and found that an auto-rickshaw bearing a Delhi registration number had been hit from behind by a car, police said.
Sanjay, a resident of the Patparganj area, was driving the auto carrying three passengers — Harish Chander, Sejal and Geeta Devi. All of them are labourers and residents of Uttar Pradesh’s Amethi, police said.
During the preliminary inquiry, the offending vehicle was identified with a Delhi registration number. However, the driver of the car, along with other occupants, fled the scene immediately after the accident, the officer added.
Police have identified the registered owner of the car, and efforts are underway to trace the absconding driver, they said.
