A clash between private security guards and students at Gautam Buddha University in Greater Noida resulted in the detention of over 30 individuals, including security guards and college students.

The incident occurred at the Munshi Premchand Hostel within the university campus when security guards objected to students smoking cigarettes, according to a police spokesperson.

The spokesperson said that the argument between the two groups escalated into a clash around 10.30 pm on Sunday, leading to the police taking 33 people into custody.

Complaints have been filed by both sides, and the police are currently investigating the matter, said the spokesperson, adding that the exact breakdown of the detained individuals was not immediately available.

The incident, which occurred in the Ecotech 1 police station area, is under investigation by senior officials, and additional arrests may be made.

A video circulating on social media appears to show individuals with sticks damaging motorcycles and cars parked outside the hostel, while a person inside the hostel can be heard using offensive language. (With inputs from PTI)
