Cloudy skies to persist in Delhi; IMD forecasts light rain

The national capital saw a slight increase in the minimum temperature on Saturday, amidst a forecast of light rain by the IMD.

Safdarjung station, representative of the city’s weather, recorded a minimum temperature of 26.6 degrees Celsius, 0.7 degree below the normal and with a 0.8-degree increase from a day before.

Among other weather stations, Palam recorded a low of of 24.5 degrees Celsius, a 0.1-degree increase from a day before; Lodhi Road 26.2 degrees Celsius, 0.5 degree more than Friday’s minimum; Ridge and Ayanagar 23.5 degrees and 26 degrees Celsius respectively, which are 0.6 and 1.4 degrees lower than Friday.

Meanwhile, no alerts have been issued for the day by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), but scattered rain and cloudy conditions are expected to persist throughout the day.

“There is a possibility of very light to light rain, accompanied by thunderstorm and lightning in the forenoon hours,” an IMD official said.

The weather office also said cloudy skies are likely to persist for the next few days. No rain is forecast in the coming week.

According to the IMD forecast, the maximum temperature might see an increase on Saturday and is likely to settle around 36-38 degrees Celsius.

Meanwhile, the air quality index (AQI) of the city remained in the satisfactory category on Saturday morning and was recorded at 91 (satisfactory) at 9 am, as compared to the 24-hour average AQI of 65 (satisfactory) recorded at 4pm on Friday, according to data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).

As per the CPCB standards, an AQI of 0-50 is considered ‘good’, 51-100 ‘satisfactory’, 101-200 ‘moderate’, 201-300 ‘poor’, 301-400 ‘very poor’, and 401-500 ‘severe’.
